MACAS If you’ve paddled in Ecuador and are looking for something new, or you like the idea of going where few have gone before, we’ve got the drainage for you. An adventure only DAK offers, Macas brings you “More of Ecuador” as we paddle remote rivers south of Tena. We are excited about the quality of these runs. We use the Rio Piatua as a springboard, basing out of a riverside lodge in the tropical forest where McCaw, parrots and orchids abound. From here we drive south to the most pristine jungle river we’ve ever paddled! There are 4 more new stetches to choose from, both technical and Grand Canyon-sized rivers. Folks who have paddled with us here are STOKED! For the most varied paddling in Ecuador, combine Macas with rivers in the Quijos and Tena Valleys.
TASTE OF ECUADOR We can set up a land tour for non-kayaking friends and family. While you are paddling in paradise they will be having their own adventure! Dinner time conversation from everyone will be full of "No kidding, there I was" stories! Contact us for a custom itinerary and cost.
Welcome to the best of rain and cloud-forest kayaking. Remote and beautiful, these rivers put the “c” in continuous. Fly into Quito, the capital of Ecuador and we’ll take you east over the mountains to the tiny, dairy community of Borja. There you’ll outfit your kayak from our fleet of current models, and head straight to the river for the first of 7 paddling days in a row. We’ll boat in the Quijos Valley for a few days then take a short trip south to run rivers around Tena. In either area you can find big water, drop-pool runs as well as delightful stretches of continuous, technical creeking. If you prefer to set up a private trip, or guiding and instruction for individuals or small groups, you can choose your drainage. Options include the rivers in the Quijos Valley, the Tena region, or the remote and seldom paddled rivers around Macas further south.
WHY BOAT WITH DAK? It is our goal to see you smiling the whole trip, enjoying the feeling of accomplishment as you nail your boof or own the playspot. Our thorough knowledge of the rivers and their many moods allows us to make that happen. We're here to help you sharpen your skills, coaching you on technique and strategies, and tayloring the trip to suit your style. Whether it's taking the straightforward line or one of Phil's "optional" moves, each day has the right balance of challenge and fun. We also enjoy sharing our knowledge of the exotic plant and birdlife that we encounter. From our familiarity with the runs to our quiet lodging and home cooked meals, you'll experience the full flavor of kayaking in Ecuador!
Phil and Mary have guided here since 1995. Guiding along with us are teachers and paddlers extraorinaire, Jaime Dalgo, Matt Terry and Dan Dixon. All three claim Tena as their home, and continue to search out and share new runs in Ecuador. We all look forward to sharing with you the best runs for your skills.
"You guys are World Class at what you do --- you keep us safe on
the river, make sure we are comfortable off the river, insure we have
fun on and off the river, all the while coaching us to perform better
than we think we can - it's the ideal adventure trip"
